Development Director

Hope Dental Clinic is seeking to hire a Development Director to join the leadership team at our St Paul clinic. The Development Director, in partnership with the Executive Director, will work closely with the Board Development team and Grants Manager to secure financial support for the free care, education and outreach we provide to our communities.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Director will create and execute a fundraising plan to focus on growing revenue from individual and corporate donors.

The Director will ensure a strategic, donor-centric approach to identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual & corporate donors so that giving is retained and increased over time. Donor qualification and cultivation will serve as a “pipeline builder” with responsibilities that include identifying and qualifying lapsed and new donors with the goal of increasing the active major donor base.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Develop, implement and report on strategies and activities to maximize individual & corporate contributions and special event participation and revenue. Create an annual work plan that outlines goals for new, renewed and upgraded major individual giving and corporate donors ($1,000+).

– Ensure that all major annual donors are incorporated in a stewardship plan that keeps them informed of HDC’s news, volunteer opportunities, and giving options. Track stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of major individual giving & corporate donors.

Donor Prospecting and Cultivation should involve the ED, board members, providers, staff, students and other volunteers in the cultivation process as appropriate.

-Implement and manage the major annual giving solicitation processes including general solicitation mailings. Renew and upgrade annual gifts of active major donors.

–  In collaboration with the Admin & Support Manager, oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing; input detailed donor information and activity including contact reports; track and report on donor and prospect activity, opportunities, challenges and progress toward annual objectives.


Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) and at least three years of successful fundraising experience with a focus on individual donors. CFRE certification is a plus.

Requires computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and donor data management systems. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred.


Proven ability to increase giving and retention within a major donor portfolio or campaign.

Extroverted, energetic and communicative individual with high self-awareness. Must have strong initiative and ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a broader team.

Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging and developing networks within diverse constituencies.

Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in addition to outstanding organizational and planning skills with high attention to detail.

Experience in planning and executing fundraising events, preferably in a human service or healthcare environment.
