Americorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a program through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) that seeks to build capacity for organizations that alleviate poverty in our communities. Locally, Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact (IAMNCC) serves as the intermediary organization between Americorps VISTA and Campus Compact VISTA host sites. IAMNCC strengthens the capacity of colleges and universities to fulfill the public purposes of higher education through its network of 58 campuses. The IAMNCC VISTA program is operated by Iowa Western Community College where all Americorps VISTA financial, payroll and human resource services are centralized. 




The Community Partner and Volunteer Engagement VISTA is a key position at Hope Dental Clinic (HDC)This position will be the key connection between HDC and its roster of 640 volunteer licensed clinicians and dental students, while building connections with dental practices as well as educational programs to expand our volunteer community. Other duties will include assisting with vendor and funder communications and data collection. 


This position is to begin August 2020 and will end August 2021 and is renewable for 3+ years. 



  • Make biannual presentations to existing and potential campus and clinic partners 
  • Connect with college faculty to identify opportunities to expand partnerships  
  • Personally engage volunteers, educators and dentists to increase the frequency of volunteer participation 
  • Create internship-based partnerships and engagement/feedback for interns 
  • Optimize volunteer communications via mass email 
  • Create a volunteer feedback system and recommend improvements to orientation, training and operations 
  • Identify and approach corporate in-kind sponsors for volunteer food and supplies 
  • Research institutional funder prospects to support a permanent volunteer manager 
  • Draft and submit letters of request for funding to support permanent volunteer manager position 
  • Enhance volunteer engagement plans with volunteer-to-donor conversion efforts 
  • Refine patient surveys and data collection/entry processes 
  • Develop useful reports and lists within volunteer and donor databases 


  • High School Diploma or GED certificate 
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic, cultural backgrounds, ages and economic circumstances 
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel 


  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people 
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff 
  • Ability to network with other professionals and organizations 


  • Light physical effortRequires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walkingEffort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day on average.   
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include use of protective equipment.  


  • Annual living stipend of approximately $13,400  
  • End of service benefit: $6,195 education award (can be used within 7 years for future tuition or to repay student loans) OR $1,800 cash  
  • Relocation allowance: If moving more than 50 miles to a new location (not returning to hometown) $750 settling in allowance for security deposit 
  • Healthcare support: $7,900 healthcare allowance supplement to the VISTA’s qualifying comprehensive health insurance plan (eg: private insurance through parents/spouse, public insurance like Medical Assistance or State Insurance, or VISTA Health Benefit Plan). VISTA must carry insurance throughout service year in order to access the allowance. VISTAs who do not have health care coverage can enroll in the AmeriCorps VISTA Healthcare Benefit Plan at no cost. The plan does not cover pre-existing conditions nor does it cover dependents, including your spouse.  
  • Mileage Reimbursement while serving: $.50 per mile provided by Iowa Western Community College for travel to IAMNCC-sponsored trainings. Host site provides mileage reimbursement for any other service-related travel. 
  • Federal student loan forbearance available to those who elect the education award and interest on loans can be paid by CNCS Trust while member is serving.
