What you’ll learn
This lecture will go over a typical associate agreement for a dental practice and give you tips on what to expect and avoid. We will go over where you might expect to practice (private vs. corporate practices) and how to find a job. We will also go over compensation formulas, benefits (CEs, dues, health insurance, retirement, etc), disability/maternity leave, “at will” employment, termination (“for cause” vs “for convenience”) and probably most importantly, non-competes and all other standard terms for MN. This lecture will be interactive, and we will answer those burning questions new dentists have about becoming an associate.
Trainer: Hillary Becchetti, JD; Attorney, Owner & CEO Pine Lake Law Firm
Hillary Harms Becchetti grew up in the world of dentistry. Both of her parents are dentists. Her first job was working in her parents’ dental office and almost every family vacation was wherever the ADA conference happened to be that year. Needless to say, she has spent her entire life surrounded by the dental profession. It is no surprise that she decided to focus her legal career on dentists.
Hillary is the founder of Pine Lake Law Firm in Minnesota, a law firm that focuses solely on dental transactions. Through her law firm, Hillary counsels and represents dentists in practice transitions and acquisitions, employment agreements, general employment law issues, leases, estate planning, pre-nuptial agreements and conflict management. She is a licensed attorney in Minnesota and South Dakota. Hillary has co-authored an article featured in Northwest Dentistry that was awarded the International College of Dentists Leadership award for Journalism in 2016. Hillary also appeared in the Academy of General Dentistry December 2017 featured podcast with Dr. Wes Blakeslee, Understanding the Legal Side of Dental Transitions. Along with numerous presentations for the Minnesota Dental Association, she just recently was interviewed by Dr. David Rice of Ignite, DDS for an informational video regarding dental transitions.
